Position Summary

The Career Consultant provides career advising, assessment, and coaching to clients, helping them develop the skills, confidence, and resources required to secure and maintain meaningful employment. This role combines one-on-one guidance with group facilitation, equipping clients with effective job search techniques, career planning strategies, and lifelong employability skills. The Career Consultant plays a vital role in ensuring that clients are matched with appropriate program services and supports that align with their career goals.

 

Key Responsibilities

Advise prospective clients on program features and benefits, ensuring they understand available supports.
Conduct preliminary screenings and Needs Determinations/Employability Assessments to confirm program and service eligibility.
Administer and score career assessment instruments to identify strengths, skills, and areas for growth.
Provide individualized coaching and consult with supervisors or managers as needed to address client challenges.
Maintain accurate client records in Compass and ensure timely data entry of service activities.
Assist clients in identifying career interests and employment goals.
Support clients in preparing professional résumés, cover letters, and job applications.
Deliver coaching on high-impact job interviews, effective networking, and job search strategies.
Facilitate group workshops on life skills, employability, and job readiness using adult learning principles.
Build client confidence and self-sufficiency by teaching job search and research skills that promote long-term career success.
Stay current on community resources, local labour market trends, and inclusive employment practices to connect clients with opportunities.
 

Qualifications

Post-secondary education in human services or a related field.
Minimum 2 years of experience working with underrepresented job seekers, single parents, or families.
Demonstrated expertise in career counselling, employment coaching, and job search support.
Familiar with trauma-informed practice and family-centered supports.
Knowledge of adult learning principles, group facilitation, and instructional design.
Proficiency in:
Career assessments and counselling
Résumé, cover letter, and interview preparation
Job search strategies and digital platforms
Service management and client tracking systems
Relationship management and effective communication
Strong knowledge of community supports, the local labour market, and inclusive employment practices.
High level of cognitive and emotional intelligence with enthusiasm, initiative, and commitment to service excellence.
